Help
The store
Our patches, hats and more, with every purchase supporting our work with the Normandy Park Police Department. Buy with or without an account, and have your order shipped anywhere in the United States, or pick it up when the store offers pickup.
In short
- Choose Store at the top of any page, open a product, choose an option and how many, then Buy now or Add to cart.
- The bag at the top of every page is your cart; choose it to check out. Your cart is kept in this browser.
- At checkout, choose shipping (one flat rate an order, to any US address) or free pickup, type your details, and pay by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal or Venmo. No account needed.
- Washington sales tax is added at the rate for where you receive the order. Orders shipped outside Washington have none.
- You can add a gift to our General Fund at checkout. A purchase isn’t tax-deductible; the gift is, and gets its own receipt.
Step by step
Choose something to buy
- Choose Store at the top of any page, then a product.
- If it comes in options, such as sizes, choose one. Each shows its price and how many are in stock.
- Choose how many under Quantity.
- Choose Buy now to go straight to the checkout with that many, or Add to cart to keep shopping. Something sold out shows Sold out instead.
Check your cart
- Choose the bag at the top right of any page. A number on it says how many items it holds.
- Under Your cart, change how many of each under Quantity, or choose Remove.
- Choose Keep shopping to go back to the store.
Check out
- Under How you get it, choose Ship it to me or Pick it up, when the store offers both. For pickup, the page says where to collect your order.
- To ship, fill in the Shipping address. We ship within the United States.
- Under Your details, type your first and last name. If you aren’t signed in, type your email address for your receipt and news of your order, or choose Sign in so the order is saved to your account; your cart stays as it is.
- If you like, type a gift under Add a gift to the General Fund. Leave it blank for none.
- Check the Summary: the subtotal, shipping or pickup, the sales tax and the total. For shipping, the total shows once the address is in.
- Under How you pay, choose a way to pay. By card: type it in the card form and choose Pay $…. Apple Pay or Google Pay: press its button and approve the payment in Apple’s or Google’s window. PayPal or Venmo: press its button and finish in PayPal’s window or the Venmo app.
- The page says Order received, with your order number, and your receipt is on its way by email.
After you order
- Your receipt comes by email at once. A gift you added has its own receipt, in a separate email.
- When your order ships, we email you, with the carrier and the tracking number when there is one. For pickup, we email you when it is ready to pick up.
- Signed in, see every order on your account page under Your orders, with where it stands and its Receipt (PDF).
- Ordered without signing in? Make an account with the same email address and confirm it (see Confirm your email address), and your orders join it.
Ask about an order, or for a refund
- Write to us from the Contact page, with your order number (it starts with S, like S2026-000012).
- Say what you would like: an answer about shipping or pickup, or your money back.
- We reply by email. A refunded order shows Refunded under Your orders on your account page.
Good to know
- We ship to any address in the United States for one flat rate an order, shown on the store page and at checkout. Pickup, when the store offers it, is free.
- Washington sales tax is added at the rate for the address where you receive the order, on the items and the shipping; for pickup, at the rate for the pickup address. Orders shipped outside Washington have no Washington sales tax, and a gift is never taxed.
- A purchase is not a tax-deductible donation. A gift added at checkout always goes to the General Fund, is tax-deductible and is receipted on its own.
- You can buy up to 10 of each item, and up to 20 different items, in one order, and never more than we have in stock.
- Your cart is kept in this browser: it doesn’t follow you to another device, and nothing in it is sent to us until you open the checkout.
- Apple Pay and Google Pay show only on a device and browser that offer them. Your card details go to Square, our card processor, and never reach this website.
- Nothing is charged until you pay. If something sells out or the total changes while you check out, the page says so and nothing is charged.
- Refunds are made by the Foundation, by hand: ask through the Contact page.
- While the store is closed, its page says Opening soon, and your cart waits in this browser.
Questions and answers
Buying
Do I need an account to buy?
No. Type your name and email address at checkout. With an account, your name and shipping address start from your profile, and every order is kept on your account page with its receipt.
How much is shipping?
One flat rate an order, to any US address, whatever you buy. The store page and the checkout show the rate. Pickup, when offered, is free.
Can I send an order to someone else?
Yes. Type their name and address under Shipping address. The receipt and the emails about the order still come to you.
What if something sells out while I check out?
Nothing is charged. The page lowers your cart to what we have, or takes out what is no longer for sale, and says so. Check your cart and pay again.
Money and tax
Why was sales tax added?
The Foundation collects Washington sales tax on orders received in Washington, at the rate for that address, as the state requires. The summary names the rate. An order shipped outside Washington has none.
Is my purchase tax-deductible?
No: you receive something for it. A gift you add at checkout is, and gets its own receipt. To give without buying, use the donate page; see Give to the Foundation.
How do I return something or get my money back?
Write to us from the Contact page with your order number. We handle refunds by hand, and your money goes back the way you paid.
If something goes wrong
The messages you may see, word for word (“…” stands for a part that changes), what they mean and what to do.
- “The store is closed just now, so nothing can be bought. Try again later.”
The store closed while you were checking out. Nothing was charged.
What to do: Try again later. Your cart stays in this browser for when the store opens again.
- “Sold out for now. Please check back soon.”
We have none of this item left just now.
What to do: Check back soon, or write to us to ask when it is coming back.
- “Only … left. Choose … or fewer.”
Your cart asks for more of an item than we have.
What to do: Choose a smaller quantity for that item, or remove it, then pay.
- “Some things in your cart sold out or ran low, so we lowered how many are in it. Check your cart before you pay.”
Someone else bought some of the same items.
What to do: Check the quantities in Your cart, then pay.
- “Nothing was charged. Some things in your cart sold out while you were checking out.”
An item sold out just as you paid.
What to do: Check Your cart, which now holds what we have, and pay again.
- “Your cart holds … different items, the most for one order. Check out, or remove something from your cart first.”
One order can hold up to 20 different items.
What to do: Check out what you have, then start a second order.
- “Your total changed to … while you were checking out, and nothing was charged. Check it, then ….”
Something in the order changed the total after you saw it, such as a price, the shipping or the sales tax.
What to do: Check the new total in the Summary, then pay as the message says.
- “We couldn't find that address in Washington. Check the street, city and ZIP code.”
We look up the sales tax rate by the street address, and could not find the one typed.
What to do: Check the spelling of the street, the house number, the city and the ZIP code.
- “We could only find that ZIP code, not the street address, so we can't work out the sales tax. Check the street name and number.”
The rate depends on the exact address, not just the ZIP code.
What to do: Check the street name and number, and type the street address in full.
- “Your card could not be charged. Try another card, or contact your bank.”
Your bank refused the payment. Nothing was charged.
What to do: Try another card, or pay with Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal or Venmo.
- “Card payments are paused for a short while. Try again later.”
Many card payments failed in a short time, so card payments pause for a while. It keeps people from testing stolen cards on our checkout.
What to do: Pay with PayPal or Venmo, or try the card again later.
- “PayPal and Venmo are not available right now; you can pay by card.”
PayPal’s buttons did not load on the page.
What to do: Pay by card, or reload the page and try again.
- “PayPal did not answer just now, so your order is not finished yet. Try again in a moment; you will not be charged twice.”
You approved the payment, but PayPal did not answer when we asked for it.
What to do: Choose Finish my order. It finishes the same payment, so you are never charged twice.
- “Your card was charged, but your order could not be recorded just now. We have been told and will write to you; please do not pay again.”
The payment went through, but our records did not take the order. We have been told.
What to do: Don’t pay again. We will write to you; write to us if you haven’t heard within a few days.
- “Gifts can't be added just now. Take the gift out, or try again later.”
The General Fund can’t take a gift just now.
What to do: Leave the gift blank and pay for your order, or give on the donate page.
- “The card form could not load. Reload the page, or write to us to order.”
The card form comes from Square, our card processor, and it did not load.
What to do: Reload the page or try another browser, or pay with PayPal or Venmo.
